Hot Water cylinders are one of the biggest energy guzzling beasts in people's home, but guess what? They don't need to be on all the time!

Hot Water Hero lets us switch off supply to your hot water cylinder at smart times- so you can be rewarded with a monthly credit without lifting a finger.

How it Works?

We flick your hot water cylinder supply off for periods when energy demand is high. Don't stress- it should stay hot as cylinders are designed to keep the heat locked in.

The best part? You get $10 off your bill every month just for playing along.

Please be aware that if you have any additional appliances or systems wired to the control register of your meter that controls your hot water cylinder, such as underfloor, pool or night store heating, these will also be affected.

FAQs

So… how exactly does this work?

In New Zealand a lot of hot water cylinders are wired separately to everything else in the home. Therefore, we team up with smart metering partners to remotely switch supply to your hot water cylinder on and off, like a perfectly timed dance routine- crediting your bill while keeping the lights on for everyone.

What if my hot water is gas-heated?

Then you, my friend, are not eligible. Hot Water Hero is for electric hot water cylinders only.

Am I going to run out of hot water?

It’s very unlikely that you will run out of hot water.

Most cylinders can handle your household’s daily use while being switched off for up to eight hours per day.

Can I opt out?

Of course, you're the boss. Just flick us an email and we will remove you from the programme within 2 business days

What do I actually get out of this?

$10 off your bill every single month you stay in.

Plus, if you are on Get Shifty, we typically will be shifting usage away from peak periods.

Please note if you opt out mid-month, you won't get the credit for that period.

Am i eligible

Here's what you need to qualify for Hot Water Hero:

✅ You’re a Powershop customer.

✅ You’ve got an electric hot water cylinder.

✅ You live in an area with a participating energy network.

✅ You’ve got an eligible smart meter.

✅ You met the other eligible terms specified here in our terms
