How to make the switch

You can join Powershop or switch from another power company by using our online sign up form. It only takes a few minutes. Apart from telling us where you live, all you'll need is a valid email address and payment details (credit card, debit card or bank account). We take care of everything else.

We'll tell your current power company the bad news

We'll contact your current power company. They're obliged to complete your switch within 10 business days provided you're up to date with payments. They will give us your final meter reading and use it to send you the final bill for your account with them. It's also a good idea to take your own meter reading just before you leave, so you know everything is hunky dory when you get that final bill.

We'll keep you posted

We'll be in contact with you throughout the switching process and we will let you know if you need to do anything.

New house? No worries

You can join Powershop if you are moving to a new house. When you sign up, simply give us the details of the property you are moving to and your move in date. Find out more about moving house.

More than one house? Bring 'em on

Got a bach or a rental as well as your main home? You can sign those up too.

Just one more thing...

Once you’re switched over to us, we recommend that you enter a meter reading in the first few days. This will bring your account balance up to date and help us work out how much power you are using each day.

But first things first...download the app!

To get the most out of your shopping, you need to download our app. While you can shop through our online customer portal, using our app is way easier. It means you can shop for power anytime, anywhere, monitor your usage and best of all, you’ll be notified when Powerpacks arrive in the shop, so you never miss a chance to save.

"Into our second month, really stoked. No nasty surprises, great rates, such an awesome easy-to-use app makes staying on top of payments easy."

Frequently asked questions

Can I switch if my house has no power right now?

You can switch to Powershop if you have been disconnected or there is no supply to your house at the moment. We will arrange for your power to be connected, but a reconnection fee may be charged – see our schedule of fees. However, if you have been disconnected because you have not paid your current retailer they may not allow you to switch until you have paid them any outstanding bills.

If your property has been disconnected for longer than six months, you will need to arrange a certificate of verification (COV) signed by a registered electrical inspector. Once you have the COV, it must be presented to our technician when they visit to reconnect your property.

Does Powershop supply gas?

No, we don’t supply gas. You can still switch to Powershop for electricity and remain with your current supplier for gas. You don't need to do anything differently when you sign up online.

What happens if I am medically dependent?

No electricity retailer can guarantee a continuous supply of electricity. If you, or anyone else at your property relies on a continuous supply of electricity for critical medical support and if you were cut off it may cause serious harm or loss of life you need to let us know by filling out the section on 'Vulnerability & Medical Dependency' during the sign up process.

You also need to talk to your GP or specialist and arrange for a backup power supply if there is an outage.
